Where it started…

We met in January 2016, having met on social media and having our first date at a local pub. We bought our first home in July 2017, had our daughter in August 2017 and got engaged in June 2018, after two and a half years together.

Popping the question…

A got down on one knee in June 2018. Despite having many romantic opportunities during holidays abroad, A proposed in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, during the half time break of an England match! We had gone for walk (England were winning 5-1) and I turned around to find A on one knee. I have no recollection of what was said, as I started to cry as soon as I saw the ring!

Memorable moments…

Our wedding planning journey was definitely not the easiest! Planning a wedding during a pandemic and having three wedding dates was stressful, emotional and exhausting. After having our original wedding date, 26th July 2020, cancelled due to Covid 19, we felt confident postponing to 29th October 2020. When we had a further update of more wedding restrictions, in the space of a couple of days (!) we brought our wedding date forward to 27th September, meaning we could still have 30 people, before the new 15 people restrictions. This gave us 5 days to rearrange a day we had spent 2 years planning.

Every one of our suppliers were incredible. As a couple, you spend months deciding on flowers, the cake, meal choices, etc, but with less than 5 days to go, we didn’t have many choices, however all our suppliers went above and beyond to ensure we had the day we’d imagined.

We were incredibly lucky and enjoyed the sun shining all day. One of my favourite moments was seeing our beautiful flower girls in their white dresses, smiling, laughing and playing outside the barn.

On the day, we felt relieved. Yes, everybody wants that fairy tale wedding day, but ultimately, you have to remember the reason why you are doing it in the first place. We had the most special, intimate day, celebrating becoming husband and wife, with our closest family and friends.

Style / Food…

Our theme was very simple, monochrome, with some foliage thrown in. Ann, our florist from The Secret Gardens, did amazing with the flowers around the venue, considering she had 5 days to create something beautiful. Our decorations were simple – lanterns, candles and white & green flowers dotted around. We had the gorgeous fairy light canopy in the barn.

Our cake was a simple, tasty vanilla sponge cake, with cupcakes alongside it. I had phoned Hannah Culley 4 days before, asking her to do anything she could! She definitely pulled it out the bag!

We chose Orchard for our catering. From the beginning, they were brilliant. When I explained we were getting married in 5 days, Mo was amazing. The food was delicious, but nothing beat going back to the bridal suite at the end of the night to find Orchard had left us our duo dessert (yum!) and a slice of wedding cake to enjoy – thoughtful and perfect!

The venue…

My sister-in-law first suggested viewing The Barn at Upcote. Driving through the fields, arriving and walking down the steps and the gorgeous barn itself – we knew straight away it was the venue for us! It had the modern feel with the space we wanted.
Walking down the steps with my bridesmaids and Dad, with the string trio playing, was everything I had imagined! We just wished our full guest list had been able to share our day.

Looking the part…

I found ‘the dress’ after trying on over 30 dresses! It was everything I thought I didn’t want, so wasn’t even planning to try it on, but the lace and beads won me over. The suits were from Peter Posh, in Wolverhampton.

Honeymoon…

We booked a cruise around the Greek islands for our honeymoon, but, along with the theme of our wedding – it got cancelled. We are hoping to rebook a cruise as soon as we can.
