The Couple: Charlotte & Chris

Length of Engagement: 2 years

Where it started…

We met through Chris’ best woman Lisa and her wife Becci. Chris was having a drink with them and said how he didn’t want to be single anymore so they set us up! We had a terrible first date as Chris was really ill. He soon made it up with a wonderful meal which we love to go back to as a little reminder.

The Barns…

We had seen Upcote on Instagram and automatically just thought how peaceful it looked and how safe and secure it was for the children.

It was so beautiful and we felt we could really make it our own. We had to factor in young children and our elderly relatives but the central Threshing Barn was our main attraction. I pictured walking down the steps with all the girls straight away.

Style…

We wanted something very personal and went for dark green, black and gold, it was picture-perfect. Everything we imagined!

Cake…

The cake was black too! We had chocolate mud cake with caramel buttercream, white chocolate sponge with passion fruit curd and carrot cake. Alison at Frost and Crumb was amazing!

Looking the part…

Chris wanted a very particular look, he’s very quirky and has a particular style so making the suit as comfortable and stylish for him was just as important as the dress. He had his suit trousers tailored shorter to wear with loafers. It was a big change but made such a difference. He looked amazing!

It was very important to get matching suits for Chris and our son Oscar. We got them from Heaphys – a traditional gentleman’s store in Warwick.

Memorable moments…

Chris made a joke at the front of the aisle when I got there and I could not stop laughing. We laughed our way through the vows. I also put the ring on the wrong finger! It was perfect for us.

Advice for other couples…

Don’t follow the trends of wedding styling, make it your own and everything you had ideas for, do it! There are so many ways to cheat on styling rather than spending a fortune and make sure you rope your girls and guys in – we did and we loved it!
